Joker 4K (2019) Story: The Basics

Joker 4K (2019) Ultra HD Blu-ray Review: The Basics

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks -- the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Director: Todd Phillips

Joker 4K (2019) Ultra HD Blu-ray Video Review: The Basics

Joker 4K (2019) Ultra HD Blu-ray Review: The Basics

Joker on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray comes with Dolby Vision and is sourced from a 4KDI; so this is Native 4K with dynamic metadata. Joker is quite simply breathtaking from start to finish, and the colors are blindingly good. The color is bold; and dynamic, this is unlike anything I have seen on the UHD format before.

The detail is phenomenal; and the way the cameras focuses on specific objects is incredible, this is a new level of detail for the 4K physical format and no streaming app can come close to this. Even the Blu-ray cannot touch this 4K in terms of color and detail, there is no match for the 4K version, nothing comes close to this.

This will more than likely be 2020's REFERENCE disc, I know it's early but I'd be shocked in anything in 2020 is going to be the beauty of this movie. This is a shocking example of how good 4K media can look, and deserves to be seen by anybody who love quality. The best disc in 2019 was The Shining in my opinion, but this movie possibly edges it; just because of the camera quality.

Support physical media by buying this release, please don't download this movie, because movies like this that push boundaries in the art and visuals should be praised and promoted in every way possible. If you're are wondering which version to buy; the Blu-ray or the 4K Ultra HD, buy the UHD version of Joker, you will not be dissapointed.

A MUST OWN! A NEW STANDARD HAS BEEN SET!

VIDEO SCORE: 5 OUT OF 5

THE BASICS: REFERENCE DISC

Joker 4K (2019) Ultra HD Blu-ray Audio Review: The Basics

Joker 4K (2019) Ultra HD Blu-ray Review: The Basics

Joker comes with Dolby Atmos and has an extremely strong soundtrack. One thing I noted was the actual sound quality, it's so, so good, everything is crystal clear, for quality alone; it's one of the best discs I've heard. The dialogue quality is bar none the best disc I've heard.

The audio is focused primarily on the front soundstage; but there are instances of surrounds and heights being used. This isn't Aquaman or Ready Player One levels of surround sound or Atmos, however for me; this time, the quality has overcome this in my opinion. The music is very powerful and has great bass, and yet again; the quality is shockingly good.

The only reason for not giving this a REFERENCE DISC is because it's not a Mad Max Demo Disc, and that's the only reason. For me this is a great example of how good a movie can sound without abusing Atmos or surround sound, the film keeps it's integrity (so to speak) by not putting sounds into Atmos just because they can. I think this is excellently done, and still needs to heard in Dolby Atmos because nuances cannot be heard without it.

AUDIO SCORE: 5 OUT OF 5

THE BASICS: INCREDIBLE QUALITY

HOW I REVIEW THE BASICS

I just write what I see, nothing super in depth; just what I see. Do I see noise in the blacks? Edge enhancement? Digital Issues? Scaling Problem? I will let you know if I see any errors in the discs; and explain how good they really look. Same with the audio; a very simple review method. I have no agenda other than finding and reporting what I see and hear. My reviews will not get a reference certificate unless its flawless; and I will not be giving out 10/10 or 5/5 video / audio without merit. I'm going to keep this really simple; and I hope you enjoy that side of my Reviews. Thank you.

I 100% agree with your assessment. I originally purchased the Blu Ray then upgraded to the 4K and the difference is night and day. The colors jump out of the screen. You can clearly see the output difference between 1080 and 2160.
